Am I too nutty of an organizer? Be honest.

Are you an organized person? Just how organized are you?

Let me share the crazy levels I’ll go to…

A year or two ago, I participated in the SuperFine art show. Artists who participate in that show are required to submit a PDF showing how their wall will be curated.

That was the first time I’d done anything like that. We were given a PDF with a grid on it, with each little square of the grid equaling 6 inches.

I laid out my work according to size, and when it came time to set up for the show, it was very easy to get everything onto the wall.

Prior to this, I would’ve just brought all my artwork and tried to lay it out on the fly. When using this curation grid, I don’t have to bring every single piece because I already know what I need to hang and where it will go.

I started using this grid for every show I’ve participated in since then.

In a couple of months, I’m going to set up at one of my favorite wine bars, Hotel Biron. The owner doesn’t have any of the measurements, so my friend and I went the other night to create a floor plan and to measure all of the walls.

Hotel Biron’s space is much bigger than I’ve ever shown in before, so I’m very excited, as well as very scared. I know I’m going to have to create more artwork so that I can fill the space nicely, which isn’t a bad situation to be in!

I plan to give Hotel Biron a PDF they can pass along to all artists who participate in shows there after me. I think everyone will appreciate that!

So how do your organizing skills compare to mine? Am I a little nutty?

I say that playfully because I do think I’m a little over the top, but I love it and embrace it.
