What do you do when you need to reset?

For me, it’s painting. Not always with a plan. Sometimes I just need to make something.

That’s how Hope III started. I sat down to get it going, and somewhere in the middle, I looked up, and the whole painting was done. That doesn’t happen to me often. Maybe one in four sessions. You can’t plan for it. It just takes over.

If you look carefully in the video, you can see Hope I hanging in the background for reference. This one is the third piece in the triptych, and I needed to know where I’d been to know where I was going.

Hope is named for what it looks like to me, light breaking through a thick, overgrown garden. Heavy and hopeful at the same time.

I love how the layers came together in this one. I was shocked by how much I painted and then shocked again by how it turned out.

This is what reset looks like for me. What does it look like for you?
