A “Small” Tour of Wonder Land

Let me take you on a virtual tour of the 17 paintings I made for my current show at Hotel Biron, Sojourn in Wonder Land

I’ll start with the small ones, the five 9×12 watercolor paintings. Specifically, I’m going to focus on Falling Into You, because it opened up a whole new way of painting for me.

I had painted it a while ago, an abstract in blue and orange. The overall painting was alright, but I felt it could be better. So I took a chance, and I painted another layer of blue and orange on top.

This created some incredible textures and playful spots where the colors
pulled and tugged at each other. It reminds me of a waterfall or water
park, somewhere you might go to play. Which is partly why the show is called Sojourn in Wonder Land; this is one of the “lands” for you to visit. It’s also one of my favorite new pieces.

The other four pieces were also backgrounds that I added a second layer to. In each case, the painting became more complex and intentional. Here they are…

Falling Into You – There’s turmoil but also love. And I will fall into you over and over again.

Creature Features – A happy explosion of color. You can see some critters within, some flowers, some cotton candy… and more?

A Hidden Gem – This one started as an octopus; you can still sort of see it if you look closely, hence the title.

Can I stay for a while? – A garden with rich colors, I can almost smell the jasmine. We shall walk through slowly and take it all in.

They Crash Against Me – The waves, do you see them? They keep coming, but I hold steady. They will not knock me down.

Which one do you like best?
