Red, yellow, and… blue?
Red, yellow and… blue?
Sabri showed up wanting three octopuses. But I only had a red one and a yellow one that went together. Naturally, we needed a blue one to go with them. So we decided to make one.
I painted two, because that’s what I do, just in case. And then let him choose. He picked “Kettei-Shita,” which means “determined” in Japanese. I named her that because I was determined to finish her in one day, switching back and forth between my web design work and my studio while she dried in between. It was a stressful week and a stressful day, but she got done.
When Sabri saw her in person, he said she felt “powerful, peaceful, and full of spirit all at once.” That my work has “soul, emotion, and energy that people can truly feel.”
She’s going to a place where she’ll be seen every day. Loved every day. That’s all you can ask for when you send something out into the world.
Bittersweet is the right word. Happy she has a home. Already missing her a little. (I was tempted to keep her for myself!)
If one of my pieces is calling your name the way they called to Sabri, I’d love to help you find your own. Take a look at what’s available and reach out anytime.
