What will you be for Halloween this year?

I’ve always loved Halloween; my mom would make really cool costumes for me every year. Then, when I was old enough, I started making fun costumes for myself. As you might imagine, the costumes were pretty creative.

When I was around 21 years old, I made a Jack and Sally costume for my husband and me based on the movie A Nightmare Before Christmas. We went to four different bars and won every costume contest we entered!

This is the only picture I could scrounge up from a negative.

I thought I had more but I can’t find them!

I think we made around $3,000, and we also won a trip to Nashville to see the Cleveland Browns play. I couldn’t care less about football, but it was fun to get the trip to Nashville. The winnings covered our hotel and tickets to the game, so all we had to do was buy our airfare.

I’m not into sports at all. I won’t be rooting for any teams or keeping any scores. I’d much rather make art.

But I digress. Back to Halloween costumes! I think the Jack and Sally costumes were the pinnacle of my costume-making days. I want to share a few other creative costumes that were a lot of fun along the way.

Halloween is on a Friday this year and I wanted to throw a party, but I won’t be able to. I’m pretty bummed about it. I also have so little energy these days that I don’t think I’d be able to make a costume anyway.
