The Cosmic Iris, Another Space Flower

For this painting, I was trying to create another inferno or nebula, like my blue and purple abstract paintings. However, I was disappointed with it. I made the other yellow and red painting into a flower, so I thought I’d make this one to match.

Before all of this, I tried a more “normal” iris painting, which, again, disappointed me. So, I used that original painting to create the outlines (left, below), which I projected onto this painting and traced with black watercolors (right, below).

I filled in the edges and background with black, letting the original colors come through, and voila! I now have a Cosmic Iris to match the Cosmic Allamanda.

The iris is one of my favorite flowers; looking at irises gives me those happy, fuzzy chills throughout my body, and this painting does the same!
