She Chose Chaos – New Abtract Octopus

This is my second attempt at combining my octopus paintings with the new abstract powder paintings.

The blue abstracts looked so much like water that it felt like an obvious combination. However, I wanted to use my favorite color palette: a teal or turquoise blue with a rusty orange or red. These colors together make my heart sing!

The octopus turned out to be more pink, with hints of red, but I am still happy with it. The palette still works really well.

Again, I wasn’t sure how I wanted to finish the piece (just like when I painted the blue octopus!). Did I want to paint her body more realistically, or did I want to stick with the outline concept? In this case, the octopus could have been finished in multiple ways; her legs had several options.

I used Procreate to see how the octopus would look with white outlines before committing to a path. I ended up mostly sticking to the original outline that I added with marker, before getting it wet. Changing course on the body shape would have caused too many issues.

This octopus turned out to be a very cheeky girl! I think she is up to something, and it will probably be astounding or hilarious. I named this painting She Chose Chaos.

Do you like the outcome?
