One Way to Make More Art

For years and years, I kept telling myself that I needed to create more artwork. But after a hectic workday, when evening came, I was tired and didn’t want to think anymore or make any more decisions or create anything!

I also felt like I didn’t have the appropriate space to make art; there was nowhere for me to draw or paint comfortably. There is a work-life balance that we all need, with appropriate spaces for “work” and for “life,” which helps the brain correlate a specific location to a specific part of life.

With that thought in mind, I decided I needed to make a nook for my artwork. There was a corner in my office/guestroom where there was a bookshelf, which I got rid of, and I bought a small art desk for $150. Having a dedicated space for creativity meant that I could start on a project and leave it there, and return to it the next day to continue creating. My little art nook has really helped me dive into creating new artwork. I am enjoying it immensely.

I also found it helpful to read Artpreneur, which explains step by step how to set up a framework for making more art and treating it more like a business. That is exactly what I’m doing now. And even though I’ve turned my art into a business, I still really love creating it and admiring it when it’s completed. I’m even enjoying writing these emails and getting in the habit of doing them, and I think I’m getting better at them. (Thank you, Aunt Di, for being my editor!) But you should be the one to let me know whether you think they’re actually getting better!

In closing, I’d like to suggest that if there is some passion project that you’ve been wanting to do that you keep putting off, try to set up a literal space for it. Maybe that’s just what you need!

Let me know what you think!
