My new abstracts, all about technique

My mom will occasionally send me some cool new watercolor paints to try. A couple Christmases ago she sent me some sparkly watercolor tubes, they were silver, copper, bronze, black, and pewter. These are the paints that lead to my sparkly octopus paintings. (Thank you, mom!)

More recently, she sent me some Color Burst watercolors. They are small bottles with the color in powder form. My new abstract paintings take advantage of the powder, I’ll get the paper wet and then sprinkle on some of the colors. That’s how they end up bleeding into each other and creating that “fury” look.

I’m a huge sucker for a blue / orange / red palette, so I keep trying to get the right combo of those colors. I absolutely love each of the blue ones pictured below! Especially #04, those colors speak to my soul! I love a good turquoise and red together.

I’m not as happy with the green ones, I think they could be more interesting. If you disagree I’d love to hear your thoughts!

The purple ones have more of a nebula vibe as opposed to the inferno that the blues invoke for me.
