Inktober is a thing. Have you heard of it?
Well, we’re halfway through October, also known as “Inktober,” and I’ve only done a few drawings based on the Inktober prompts.
Inktober was created by Jake Parker in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor, with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year.
I generally love an art challenge, and every year I think to myself, “I’m going to do the prompts every day this time around!” I mean, it’s only 31 days, so only 31 drawings, right?! Then I see the prompts, and sometimes I’m inspired by them, and sometimes I’m just really not.
Anyway, here are a few drawings that I’ve done so far this month…
The first prompt was “moustache.” I’m including my first drawing, which I consider a fail. I was not happy with it because of how complicated it looks. I went with a much simpler approach in my second drawing, and I’m more satisfied with that result.

The second prompt was the word “weave.” Again, I was not happy with my first drawing; my fingers weren’t doing what I was telling them to do that day! And, I felt like that drawing also looks too complicated. But I DO think my second attempt is much more fun.

For the third prompt, “crown,” I actually cheated and pulled one out of the archives. (Shhh!)

The fourth prompt was “murky,” and I have to admit that it’s not my greatest work [big exasperated sigh]. But this challenge isn’t about always producing your best work. Sometimes you’ve just gotta get something onto the paper and put it out there!

More to come soon!
