A Quiet Stampede – New “Elephant” Artwork
I asked an experienced abstract artist for some feedback on my new abstract paintings. The advice was to create a little more negative space for the eye to rest in.
So I decided to do a few abstracts with white space. And I wanted to do something with black and red, I was trying to go for a color palette that would appeal more to the masses. I’m such a huge fan of color, but I know everyone is not as bold as I am with the decor.

I wasn’t happy with the outcome at first. The edges felt weak against the white background. I turned to my trusty old Procreate app and got to work trying some things out.
I could sort of see an elephant, but I didn’t want to make it an obvious elephant. I also didn’t want the red to evoke blood… or do I? Maybe we need to be reminded of the terrible ways we treat animals and how we’re stealing their land.

Anyway, I added some flowers on top of the red area to make it a little less threatening. I gave her a hint of eyes. And added the fans around the edges, just cuz I liked it.
Now I’m delighted with the painting! She’s a keeper. Yeah?
